My Coconut Oil Experiment

While in the process of packing up my room over the weekend (I found an apartment closer to DC *yay*) , I found a full jar of coconut oil that I forgot I purchased back in November from Trader Joes. I originally purchased the coconut oil because I read it was beneficial to hair, but my hair disagreed, so its been sitting in a box ever since.

Fast forward to today. As I posted a few weeks ago, my skin hasn’t been the best lately. Luckily no breakouts, but looking very dull. So I thought to myself, “There has to be other benefits to this oil than just my hair, maybe it can help with my skin.” So this morning I decided to do a quick version of the oil cleansing method with castor oil and coconut oil and let it sit on my face while in the shower. ( I didn’t measure the oils because I was short on time. ) The steam helped to open my pores and get the mess out. I then rinsed my face with a hot towel and continued with my toner, serum and moisturizer as usual. Not sure if I was supposed to follow up with all those products, but I’ll continue until something happens. Of course I didn’t notice an immediate difference, it’s the first day, but I look forward to seeing how my face looks in a month or so. I’m excited to see if this actually works because it will save me so much money on beauty products. I will probably do this 2-3 times a week, depending on how my skin reacts and I’ll try to post pictures and weekly updates.

If you decide to use coconut oil, make sure it is unrefined virgin coconut oil. You can usually find this at Whole Foods and Trader Joes for under $10. Also, I LOVE Castor oil. I always keep a bottle in the house because unlike the coconut oil, my hair agrees with it and I use it as a makeup remover.

“For skin it is a moisturizer, antibiotic, multivitamin, multi-nutrient, nourishing, anti-aging, anti wrinkle and anti-oxidant – All in one!”
