My Favorite Exfoliators

Unfortunately, it has been a very rough two weeks or my face. I came to the end of three of my favorite exfoliators and trust me, my face looks like it’s definitely going through some things. You may ask why am I crying over exfoliators and why are they so important? Because I need to get rid of these dry, dead skin cells on face.

Exfoliation from Just Ask David: “Our skin is in a constant state of renewal. New skin cells develop in the lower layers, while old skin cells work their way to the surface and die out. These dead skin cells then create a dull, lifeless appearance. While this entire renewal process takes typically two to four weeks, this process slows down as we age. By making exfoliation a part of your normal skin care regimen, you can accelerate the cell renewal process – revealing younger, healthier, more radiant looking cells. There are two basic types of exfoliation: Physical (scrubs) and Chemical (retinoid, enzymes, etc.).”

Since we all need to get rid of our dead skin cells, I thought I could share my favorite exfoliators with you.

Exfoliators
(Starting from left to right)
St. Ives Apricot Scrub: I use this as an everyday basic scrub for my face and I think every girl has used this brand at some point in their life. It really does what the brand says it will do.
Description: America’s #1 Scrub gently cleans pores and helps stop breakouts before they occur.
What I like about the product:
  • Deep Exfoliation
  • It has Salicylic Acid in it because it helps prevent future breakouts
  • Oil- Free
  • EXTREMELY affordable

You can purchase this product for $3-5.00 at Target or via their website link in the product title.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant: I primarily use this product when I break out and I need to get rid of a pimple quickly that has A.) already turned into a whitehead; B.) dried out, but there’s a scab or dry patch around the area. The reason I use this product for that is because it’s a powder (that activates with water) and doesn’t irritate the skin around my pimple when used. I have also used this product all over my face and my face was baby bottom smooth. I liked it.

Description: Gentle, daily use exfoliating powder for all skin conditions. Unique Rice-based powder formula activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes that micro-exfoliate dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter.

Why I like it:

  • Gentle on my skin
  • Contains Salicylic Acid

You can purchase this product for $52 at stores such as Ulta, Blue Mercury, or via the company’s site in the link above. My only problem is I wish I could find this product in a travel size. I did about a year ago at Ulta, but the store near me stopped selling them 😦

ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment: This exfoliant is EVERYTHING. I tried this products because I wanted to see what all the hype was about and now I understand. After the first use, my skin felt so smooth, looked brighter, and my skin really felt clean. You can feel the microbeads in the product, but they feel smaller than the ones in the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. This has really helped with my hyperpigmentation and occasional ingrowns around my jawline. Seriously, I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!
Description: Exfoliate and polish skin with ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment to reveal a glowing, fresh-from-the-Clinic complexion. Scrubbing Microbeads are designed to deep clean pores and Salicylic Acid is formulated to balance hydration, without over-drying. See dramatically smoother, brighter, healthier-looking skin after just 1 use.
What I like:
  • Contains Salicylic Acid
  • Instantly Smooth Skin
  • Brighter Skin
  • Helps with my hyperpigmentation from ingrown hairs

This product comes in three different sizes at $22, $85, and $175. You can purchase it from Nordstrom, Sephora, or the company site by clicking the title link.

FIRMx™ Peeling Gel: What makes this product different from the others is that it’s a gel. I love that you can see the dead skin cells coming off. Seeing it was weird the first time I used it, but now I love it. It’s nice to see the product actually working on your skin. Just like the ExfoliKate, after the first use my skin looked brighter and felt extremely smooth. For one week, I used this product everyday because I was addicted to seeing the dead skin cells roll right off! However, I wouldn’t recommend doing that.

Description: Visibly rolls, lifts and sweeps away dead skin cells when massaged onto skin. Multi-action enzymes and cellulose help uncover a smooth, fresh, new complexion. For all skin types.

What I like:

  • Brighter skin
  • Smoother skin
  • Gentle and effective
  • Also helps with my hyperpigmentation

You can purchase this product for $48 from Sephora, Ulta or the company site. Bonus: here’s a pic of me with the product on my face. I thought it was so cool and took a pic.

Well, I hope this post was helpful if you’re in the market for a new exfoliator. If you have tried any of these before, I would love to know your thoughts on them.

Thanks for reading 🙂
