While in the process of packing up my room over the weekend (I found an apartment closer to DC *yay*) , I found a full jar of coconut oil that I forgot I purchased back in November from Trader Joes. … Continue reading
Ladies- Have you decided what to buy the love of your life/man in your life/boo thang for Valentine’s Day? If not, let me help you.
Now, I know most of the Valentine’s Day commercials cater to buying gifts for us ladies (ooh I love a good gift!), but our men need to feel loved/liked/lusted after too. Check out some of the items that I think (and my male friends agree) would make cool gifts for your guy.
#1. iPod– for the guy who needs an iPod or and iPod upgrade, this would make a great gift. But, don’t just buy any iPod and gift it to him, take the time to engrave it with a cute saying, nickname or something sweet and I’m pretty sure engraving is free. Last but not least, add a special playlist to the iPod. Include 10 or so of your favorite cute love songs. iPods range between $49-$299
#2. Tickets to his favorite event(sports, concert etc.) Please choose a team event that you KNOW he is interested in and if it’s a basketball game, don’t be mad when he wants to take his homie instead of you (unless you’re just as into sports as he is).
#3. Birch Box– boxes similar to this have been extemely popular lately. Basically Birch Box is a monthly service that will send trial size products that men love. The good thing is The Birch Box service is for men and women, so while your ordering a box for your man snag one for yourself. It’s the gift that keeps on giving until you cancel. Birch Box membership is $20/month.
#4. The Art of Shaving– For the man who shaves this is a great store with awesome shaving products. If you visit the site they even have Valentine’s day gift suggestions. You can buy him the perfect midsize shaving kit for $60 like the one below.
#5. A Handmade card- this gift can be combined with other gifts or given as a separate gift with his favorite candy. If you’re not the arts & crafts type, buy one of the old school Valentine’s Day cards (the ones we gave out in elementary school) and give it to him. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the thoughtfulness, cuteness and cheesiness of the card.
I hope this post gave you some cool ideas that you hadn’t already thought of. I hope he likes whatever you get for him!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

In my previous post, I shared a DIY Lipgloss that I found on Beautylish. Now, here’s a DIY Lip Scrub recipe that helps you put your best pout forward! (LOL). If you’re going to take the timeto make a cool gloss, why not take an extra 10 minutes to whip up this mix and get smooth lips.
• 1 tbsp. Vaseline (a natural salve or balm can be substituted if petroleum’s not your bag)
• 1 tbsp. Honey
• 2 tbsp. Sugar (I prefer white—it’s grainier)
• Flavor (here’s where you can get creative—I mixed in a squirt of chocolate syrup, but feel free to use maple, caramel, strawberry, or even a drop or two of your favorite essential oil)
Combine the ingredients in the container of your choice (a small glass jar works well, or you can re-appropriate an empty moisturizer container), mixing until everything is thoroughly combined. You can add more sugar or more honey depending on how you want the consistency. You can even stir in a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper for a bonus plumping effect.
Then scoop a silver dollar-sized amount onto your lips (try to resist the urge to eat it!) and slowly massage it in for 1-3 minutes. You can massage with an old toothbrush for extra exfoliation. Then rinse the mixture off your lips and smooth on your favorite lip balm. Now go kiss someone!
Seriously for you beauty lovers, if you don’t visit Beautylish or have the app, you are missing out on some wonderful ideas and tips.
I don’t know about you, but one of the main reasons I don’t wear an actual lip gloss/Chapstick is because they don’t come in pretty colors. I can’t wear a clear or sheer gloss because I LIKE COLOR!
I was excited when I came across this cool idea while surfing my Beautylish app. (Btw it’s such a cool site for those who are into all things beauty). This is a tutorial on how to make your very own lipgloss. The best part is that you can add in shavings from your favorite lipstick color, so now you can have that color in gloss form. I’m all for this idea and can’t wait to try it out.
Moisturized lips with a pop of color is a win win for me.
2 Tbsp carrier oil (such as almond oil—this dilutes the peppermint oil from a burn to a tingle)
1 Tbsp beeswax pellets
Directions: Put the two tablespoons carrier oil and one tablespoon beeswax in a glass jar and close the lid. Heat the jar in a pot with water on medium-high heat until wax is melted. Remove jar from pot and stir mixture. Add peppermint oil with a dropper (not too much or it’ll burn your lips—we recommend starting with eight drops and adding more if necessary). If you’d like your balm to be tinted, stir in your lipstick shavings until your desired color is achieved. Then immediately pour the mixture into your containers. Let stand for two hours until hard.
